It's been a while since I've watched something on television that impacted me so much it brought me to tears. The horrible day in September comes to mind.
However, for once it's nice to watch something that causes tears of a different emotion to flow. These are tears of laughter, joy, realization that someone out there has gone through the same things I have.
The object of my emotion is the PBS drama series,
American Family, the story of a Mexican-American family. Another note of interest, this is the first network drama to feature a cast composed of Latinos.
I only recently became aware of this show, rented the first 3 discs of the series of off Netflix, and have been hooked ever since.
Considering all the garbage that is allowed and praised on tv these days, I hope this show can survive, even if you are not Latino, everyone can related to it. In this show you have a recently widowed father, trying to cope with life, love, and his family. The dad(portrayed by Edward James Olmos) is also constantly at odds with his liberal daughter (did I mention the father is right-wing, and opposed to immigration?). That's just a hint of the series, for those of you who haven't seen it yet, I implore you to watch.
