What is it? A mixture of the Mexican and American heritage which once fused together creates the culture I grew up with. A culture where I watched every India Maria movie, my hero was El Chapulin Colorado, I had atole for breakfast, yet at the same time I never missed an episode of Saturday Night Live, my favorite meal was mom's meatloaf and I dreamed of being in the Ramones.

No more apologies, I've been busy, picked up some extra work on the side too, writing. If I ever have the courage maybe I'll tell you what is it.

Well school starts soon, I've been trying to plan out my work and school schedule, making it so I will survive the semester without having a nervous breakdown. So far I have only 7 hours of classes, I would like to take one more class, but working 40 hours a week(not counting the freelancing work I am doing) AND the tution increase, I am not sure if my wallet can take it. Yes, I know the tuition could be much higher at a larger university, but still it adds up when you are paying for your education out of your own pocket. I really need to work on getting some scholarships.

Oh well, enough of that sob story, I am just proud to be going to college, I will be the first college graduate in my family...unless someone catches up with me, you know who you are (sis).

I have been reading up on statistics of Latinos and education. Some of it is not very encouraging, the dropout rate for Latinos in high school is well..high, actually the dropout rate for the state of Texas is the highest in the U.S. I wonder why?

For me education is extrememly important, without it, you are powerless. I just don't get why kids drop out. I mean what are they thinking, that life will be easier when all you can get is a minimum wage McJob, making just enough to survive, if even that? I wonder what role parents have in this, I know my parents were always emphasizing the importance of education to me and my sister, dropping out was NEVER an option for us, nor was making a B. Hehehe. I'm glad for that, though, it has helped me now that I'm older, it may have taken longer, but I am finally seeing my goals achieved.

Isn't that what life is about anyway?

Well, I did register for classes, which start the middle of next month. So far I have only 3 classes, I'd like to take one more class, so I will be considered a full-time student this semester, and also get that much closer to my degree!
