Ok, I'm going to stray from my theme a bit today. Theme, "what theme?" you may be asking yourself "she has a theme, where is it?"(remember I have ADD so bare with me)Anyhow I want to discuss or share my thoughts about the latest book I'm reading for my World Literature class, He%at and Du%st by Ru%th Pra&wer Jhab&vala .(special characters inserted to throw off those lazy people looking for reviews of the book)
The novel is set in India, and the beginning is a bit confusing. I had to read and reread and rereread, before I finally got it. Yeah, I know I made that word up. The narrator of the story goes to India(in the 70s) to find out about her grandfather's history, he was a British government official assigned to India in the 1920s. His first wife was Olivia and she left him for an Indian prince. We find that out right away, the first page even. So much for spoilers. The narrator is intrigued by this and tries to find out all the details about this affair. With her she has Olivia's letters, and they serve as a guide to India. The rest of the novel follows the narrator as she traces the footsteps of her grandfather and Olivia. There are a lot of flashbacks narrated by Olivia as well.
You'll have to excuse my summary, it sounds like a 8th grade book report. I'll have to keep reading, maybe it gets better. The book I mean, not necessarily my writing about it.
