What is it? A mixture of the Mexican and American heritage which once fused together creates the culture I grew up with. A culture where I watched every India Maria movie, my hero was El Chapulin Colorado, I had atole for breakfast, yet at the same time I never missed an episode of Saturday Night Live, my favorite meal was mom's meatloaf and I dreamed of being in the Ramones.

Riders on the storm

I've been keeping up with the news on Hurricane Charley, the category 4 storm that hit Florida. I cannot even begin to imagine what it would feel like to go through a storm like that.

Last year our area was hit by Hurricane Claudette, it was not as strong as Charley, but still quite an experience. I put a few pictures I took after the storm blew through.

WeatherBug Meteorologist Ryan Towell has a hurricane blog, where he details all the events leading up to and after Charley. Very interesting, you should check it out. Thanks to Latino Pundit for finding that site.

So far there are reports of multiple deaths and billions of dollars in damage.

My thoughts and prayers are with those in the path of this storm as they try to recover from this tragedy.

Hurricanes are scary. I remember having to "take refuge" in shelters several times when I was a kid. We didn't even live on the Coast Line in S. Texas, and it was pretty bad.

I tell you what, after going through a hurricane once, I'll never ride it out again if I can help it. Some scary stuff there.
