Don't know if this is something that many have pondered at one time or another. I don't mean to make an issue out of it, but it's something that comes up from time to time, the issue of my background, my ethnicity, what I am, what I call myself. And I can say, to this day, when I am asked, "what are you?", I still don't know how to answer.
Here are the facts: During the time of the Mexican Revolution, my ancestors came from Mexico to settle in Texas and New Mexico. My grandparents, parents, and I, were all born in Texas.
So am I Mexican, Mexican-American, Hispanic, Hispano, Chicano, Latino, or Tejano? Which to choose...so many options...now you see why I am confused. Do Anglos have this problem as well?
During my quest for my identity, I found these interesting articles:
Hispanic, Latino or Chicano?

I'll keep you updated and let you know once I find out who I am.

same-o as cyndi lu. i add the disclaimer.
One day everyone will look back at political correctness as an embarrassing part of history. While I'm all for getting to know one's background for personal and family history's sake, it would be nice if people just refered to others as just that--people. I know that sounds very cliche, but I do sympathize for those who feel they must walk on eggshells when addressing us of the Mexican, Mexican-American, Hispanic, Hispano, Chicano, Latino, or Tejano community.
By the way, great site!
